Lionhead Campground is part of Priest Lake State Park and is located on the eastern shore toward the north end of Priest Lake. The area is popular with campers, boating, hiking, swimming and fishing.
Natural Features:
Visitors to Priest Lake State Park will enjoy the dense forests of cedar, fir and tamarack. Inhabitants of the park include whitetail deer, black bear, moose and bald eagles. The lake, noted for it’s clear water, is fed by streams cascading from the high Selkirk peaks, the main body of Priest Lake extends north south for 19 miles. A two-mile thoroughfare connects the main lake to the remote Upper Priest Lake that is accessible only by foot, mountain bike, or boat.
Recreation:
Priest Lake provides opportunities for swimming, boating, canoeing, fishing or beach time. Fishing is available in Priest Lake and many streams in the surrounding mountains. The Lionhead Unit has 1.7 mile of trails. The Shipman Point Trail is a one mile loop. The trail begins above the boat ramp and takes you on a journey through old growth timber to Lion Creek.
Facilities:
There are 47 campsites (no hookups), mostly tent camping, some trailer sites are available with a strict limit of 22 ft. from truck/trailer’s total length. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire pit with attached grill. Water is available and toliets are handicap equipped. The Lionshead Campgound has a day use area and boat launch area. Vistors and park day users may be required to park outside the campground. The check-in station has a small store available, a larger store can be found at the Indian Creek Campground. All sites must be reserved in advance.
